His prescient views on the profound disruption caused by cloud computing have made Randy Bias one of the industry’s most influential voices. He is an evangelist who was among the first to articulate the generational transition of IT from the “first platform” (mainframe computing) to the “second platform” (enterprise computing) and then to the “third platform” (cloud computing). He also popularized the cloud server "pets vs. cattle" meme. He has been called a “top ten cloud pioneer” (InformationWeek), “top cloud 5 can’t miss bloggers” (SearchCloudComputing), and “top cloud tweeter”.

As part of the EMC leadership team, Randy helps lead the company’s transformation into a modern, cloud-native enterprise vendor. His focus areas include open source software, third-platform applications, DevOps, and next-generation converged infrastructure.

Randy was an early and vocal supporter of the OpenStack project. His company, Cloudscaling, was part of the OpenStack launch and was acquired by EMC. He led the teams that deployed the first public OpenStack storage cloud outside of Rackspace and the first public OpenStack compute cloud. He is a founding Board Member of the OpenStack Foundation. He is a vocal advocate of OpenStack throughout EMC and via his writing and public speaking.

Randy has been an advisor to numerous startups including Docker, Nexenta Systems, and Humtap.

His voice is frequently heard in media outlets such as InformationWeek, The Economist, Forbes, San Francisco Chronicle, The Wall Street Journal, ReadWriteWeb, O’Reilly Radar, Light Reading and others. In addition to contributing to the Cloudscaling blog, he is a regular keynote speaker and panelist at events such as the The Web Summit, OpenStack Summit, VMworld, Structure, eComm, Interop, CloudExpo, EMCworld, Gluecon, and more.
