Randall Sobie

University of Victoria
Institute of Particle Physics Research Scientist & Professor

Randall Sobie is a Research Scientist of the Institute of Particle Physics of Canada and Professor of Physics at the University of Victoria.  He is a member of the ATLAS Project at the CERN Laboratory in Geneva which recently discovered a new particle that may be the Higgs Boson, a key missing component in our understanding of the universe.  He is also involved in the BaBar Project at Stanford Linear Accelerator Centre and the Belle II project at the KEK Laboratory in Japan, both projects searching for the reason whythe universe is made only of matter and not antimatter particles. He is actively involved in the analysis of the data from these experiments and is particularly interested in using leading edge computing and networktechnologies for particle physics research.
